HAMMOND, Ind. – Purdue Northwest (7-15, 4-7 GLIAC) split a GLIAC doubleheader against Ferris State (10-11, 3-8 GLIAC), which featured an 11-10 walk-off win in Game 2 for the Pride. FSU won the first game at Dowling Park, 10-4.
GAME 1: FSU 10, PNW 4
Ferris State put up seven runs in the fourth inning to gain a 9-0 lead and held on the rest of the way.
Allison Arnold's two-run double got PNW going in the bottom half of the fourth, and
Aubrey Shroyer's base knock plated another run, but the Pride couldn't overcome the large deficit.
The Pride tacked on another run in the fifth on
Jessica Weaver's sacrifice fly.
Shroyer finished 3-for-4 while
Taylor Stevens went 2-for-4 to lead the Pride at the dish.
FSU's Paige Kortz hit a three-run homer and recorded an RBI double to lead the visitors.
Abbie May tossed four innings of relief with four strikeouts for the Pride. Starter
Courtney Blackwell (4-7) was tagged with the hard-luck loss in the circle.
Aryn Gallacher registered her third win in the circle for the Bulldogs.
FSU outhit the Pride 15-8 in the opening contest.
GAME 2: PNW 11, FSU 10
Ashley Bravo's walk-off sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh pushed PNW to an 11-10 victory in a wild nightcap.
PNW led 9-5 entering the top of the seventh, but the Bulldogs climbed back to rally for the lead with five runs on four hits. Kortz provided the go-ahead run on a two-out knock to center.
Then it was PNW's turn for a rally.
Sabryna Stanley led off the seventh with a walk and Shroyer singled up the middle. After a deep fly ball from
Briana Poehler advanced the winning runs into scoring position, Stevens and Madi Schultz drew back-to-back walks to tie the game at 10-10. That set up Bravo's heroics as she was able to lift a ball deep enough to right center to bring Shroyer across for the win.
FSU grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, but
Jessica DeBoer blasted a home run to deep left field in the bottom half to get PNW on the board. It was her first collegiate long ball.
PNW extended its lead to six after plating a pair in each of the third and fourth frames, then adding three more runs in the fifth to give the Pride an 8-2 advantage.
The Bulldogs got three back in the sixth while the Pride responded with a run on Bravo's first sac fly to make the score 9-5 heading to the final frame.
Shroyer logged another three-hit outing and finished the day 6-for-8 at the plate overall. She doubled and tripled in the second game while producing a career-high three RBIs. Shroyer is batting a team-best .394 on the season with an active 13-game reached base streak.
DeBoer and Stanley each registered two hits, as Stanley and Madi Schultz each roped a double.
Maddison Roop tossed the first six frames in her second start of the season, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. The right-hander had three strikeouts and she walked four.
Jessica Weaver earned the win in relief for her second victory of the season.
