GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Danielle Fowler led Purdue Northwest with 19 digs and
Abigail Negri dished out 19 assists as the Pride lost in straight set to Davenport 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 at the DU Student Center.
Davenport (2-3, 2-2 GLIAC) was too much at the net for PNW (0-4, 0-4 GLIAC) to overcome. The Panthers tallied 12 blocks and forced the Pride into a negative hitting percentage for the match.
PNW had a positive hitting percentage after the first two sets, but 14 hitting errors to 6 kills in 40 attacks spelled doom in the final stanza.
Davenport raced out to a 22-7 lead in the third set to put the match away, but PNW head coach
Bill Schepel's squad showed signs of life with a strong service attack to pull off a 10-2 run.
The Pride served up five aces during the run including four consecutive aces by Negri to pull PNW to within 24-17.
The Pride jumped out to a 7-5 lead in the first set before Davenport used two big runs to take the opening stanza.
Davenport's first scoring run was enough to put the Panthers up 15-8 before seeing the Pride inch their way back to tie the match at 19-19 with a 7-1 run of their own. The Panthers then closed out the set scoring six of the final eight points.
The Panthers rode that momentum into the second set jumping out to a 7-1 lead before slowly pulling away for the 25-16 set win.
PNW was led offensively by
Kenzie Duggan with seven kills while
Rachel Wilkening tallied four block assists to lead the way at the net.
The Pride served up a season-high eight aces thanks in large part to Negri's four service aces in the second set.
