GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Purdue Northwest women's volleyball team fell to Davenport in three sets Friday night, 25-19, 25-22 & 25-13. The GLIAC match was the first road contest for the Pride under head coach
Bill Schepel.
PNW (0-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set, but the hosts clawed back to even the score at 9-9. Then, DU rattled off five straight kills and an ace to claim a 15-9 advantage, and the Pride would never recover.
The second set featured huge momentum swings – the Pride never led but tied the score six times in the frame with an answer for every run by the Panthers. PNW just couldn't get over the hump. Three straight kills by
Rachel Wilkening tied it at 21-21, but the Panthers closed on a 4-1 run to grab the 2-0 match lead.
In the third set, PNW led 6-5 with kills from
Kenzie Duggan and
Erica Brohm. But, Davenport took control and responded to the Pride taking their first lead since the first set by stringing together a 10-2 run.
Duggan and Brohm led the squad with 9.5 points each on the night. Duggan finished with six kills, two aces and three block assists. Brohm dominated the net with seven block assists, one block solo, four kills and an ace.
Autumn Beaudoin led PNW with eight kills, libero
Danielle Fowler recorded a team-high 15 digs, and setter
Holly Faley dished out 21 assists.
PNW swung at a .108 clip overall in the match with 25 kills and 13 attack errors. DU hit .203 as a team with 46 kills and 20 errors. The Panthers logged nine aces to the Pride's four.
DU's Emmy Webb led the Panthers with 17 kills, while Stephanie Kalinowski recorded 24 digs.
