HAMMOND Ind. – The Purdue Northwest women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat against Wayne State Friday afternoon at the Fitness & Recreation Center. Final set scores were 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18.
PNW dropped to 0-2 following the opening weekend of matches while WSU moved to 2-0.
Autumn Beaudoin led the Pride with seven kills and 11 digs while posting a team-high .261 hitting percentage.
Lauren Sanders recorded six kills while
Kenzie Duggan had five.
Holly Faley logged 14 assists and libero
Danielle Fowler registered 10 digs.
PNW trailed 15-13 in the first set after a
Rachel Wilkening kill, and then by three after a pair of Duggan aces made it 20-17, but WSU closed the opening frame strong by taking five of the final seven points.
In the second set, PNW rattled off eight straight points to jump ahead 13-7 and seemed well in control and on its way to tie the match at one set apiece. The Pride led all the way until the Warriors tied the score at 23-23, but the visitors rode the late momentum and completed the rally with six consecutive points to pull of the narrow set win.
The Pride never recovered from the second set and played from behind in the majority of the final stanza. A kill by Sanders sliced the deficit to four at 17-13, but that was as close as the Pride would get the rest of the way.
WSU's Taylor Wagner and Maddie Morrison led the Warriors with nine kills each.
