WESTVILLE, Ind. – Dash Shaw (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) scored a career-high 26 points including a last-second layup to lift Purdue Northwest past Indianapolis in triple overtime Saturday afternoon at H.D. Kesling Gymnasium.
It's the second straight overtime victory for the Pride and the first triple OT contest in program history.
PNW (4-6) clamped down defensively and rallied late to erase an 11-point, fourth-quarter deficit. The first PNW made field goal in the fourth quarter didn't come until the four-minute mark, but it sparked a furious run as PNW had five different players score down the stretch.
Making her second appearance of the season, freshman
Kylie Schmidt (Francis Creek, Wis./Mishicot) sent the game to overtime on a put-back layup with 10 seconds left to tie the game at 55-55.
UIndy (2-7) made the last shot in each of the first two overtime periods to force the third extra period during the see-saw affair.
In the third OT, PNW trailed 80-78 with under a minute remaining but
Abbie McDowell (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) stepped to the line and calmly buried a pair of free throws. The Greyhounds would take the clock all the way down to five seconds, but came up empty. Then, Shaw drove across the center of the lane and scored the game-winning bucket with 0.7 on the clock.
Shaw registered her third straight 20-point outing and led four players in double figures for the Pride. The sophomore guard went 10 for 13 at the line while shooting 8 of 18 overall.
McDowell knocked down three treys to finish with 20 points and nine boards. Schmidt ended with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Anjel Galbraith (Vallejo, Calif./Salesian College Prep) stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, five assists, five rebounds, and four steals.
Molly DeValkenaere (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield) chipped in with six points, eight boards and two blocks.
PNW went down as much as 14 in the second quarter, but worked its way back to within four just before halftime. The Pride would outscore the 'Hounds in each of the second, third and fourth quarters.
The Pride finished the night with a season-high 24 made free throws on 36 attempts. UIndy went 19 for 29 at the line.
Taylor Drury led the visitors with 23 points and 11 boards, while Marissa Knobloch and Lauren With each had 15 points.
