TIFFIN, Ohio – Savaya Brockington scored 33 points as the Purdue Northwest women's basketball team came up short Saturday at Tiffin, 73-60, in non-conference action.
PNW moved to 2-3 overall and will open conference play at Ferris State next Thursday. With the win, Tiffin improved to 3-3 on the season.
STAT LEADERS
- Savaya Brockington led all scorers with a season-high 33 points on 12-of-26 shooting. It was her third career 30-point performance after posting two last season
- Brockington also went 9 for 11 at the free-throw line and finished with a team-high eight rebounds
- Molly DeValkenaere chipped in with seven points and grabbed a season-high seven rebounds
- Anjel Galbraith led the Pride with four assists and four steals while playing all 40 minutes
- Reagan Courier drained a team-best two 3-pointers to finish with six points
How it happened: PNW outscored Tiffin in the third quarter, trimming an eight-point deficit at halftime down to five, as the Dragons entered the final period ahead 54-49. However, the hosts used free-throw shooting to keep a steady hand on the lead. Tiffin made 27 of 33 attempts at the line, including 11 free throws made in the fourth quarter.
PNW never led in the contest after the Dragons jumped out to an early 10-2 advantage in the first quarter. The Pride were 15 of 21 from the charity stripe and were limited to just four made field goals in the final stanza.
Both teams shot 40% overall from the floor and each logged 13 turnovers. The Pride registered a 20-12 edge in fastbreak points while the Dragons outscored the Pride in second-chance points and bench scoring.
Tiffin's Aarion Nichols led three Dragons in scoring double figures with 19 points and nine rebounds.
UP NEXT
PNW's game scheduled at Ursuline College for Sunday, Nov. 28 is canceled. The Pride will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 2 when they begin GLIAC play at Ferris State, and Saturday, Dec. 4 at Lake Superior State. PNW's next home game is set for Thursday, Dec. 9 against Grand Valley State.
