D3 Pride Hockey team falls in OT to Bradley

HAMMOND, Ind. - The Pride fought hard in their back end of the home-and-home series with Bradley at The Kube but let it slip away in extra skates, losing 3-2 and back to back games.

The Pride struck first on the first of two goals by Ryan Edgren (Fr F/Crown Point, IN/Crown Point HS) at 16:05 into the first period with assistance from Zarren Zafiro (So F/Williams bay, WI/Williams Bay HS), only to see the lead snatched by Bradley's Ethan Baker at 19:08 with help from Zach Daniels.

The second period saw plenty of back and forth action, relatively clean, save a Braves penalty, with no scoring. The Braves then jumped in the lead as Baker dropped in his second tally of the day on a power play at 4:10 with help from Zach Daniels and Jarrett Honda. Barely 20 seconds later, Edgren got his second goal at 4:31 on the helper by Luke Eenigenburg (So F/Munster, IN/Munster HS).

A turning point in the game came at 11:39 in the 3rd when on an attack series by the Pride, Purdue Northwest was tagged with unsportsmanlike conduct and misconduct penalties. That would prove crucial as Bradley continued to pressure netminder Vincent DiDonato (So G/Dyer, IN/Lake Central HS) down the stretch and into overtime. Daniels managed to slip the game-winner past DiDonato 12 seconds into the extra period, giving the Braves the weekend sweep. DiDonato stopped 18 of 21 shots on the afternoon while his counterpart, Chris Mazurek, turned away 27 of 29 between the pipes.

The Pride is now 4-2-0-0 for the year while Bradley returns home at 5-9-0-0. Next up for the D3 Pride is a weekend home-and-home with big brother Purdue-Lafayette in ICHC play.

The Black and Gold travel to Purdue Friday night while the Boilermakers come to The Kube Saturday, Nov. 20 for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
