LEBANON, Ill. – The Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team couldn't overcome its slow start in Friday's 61-57 setback to Illinois Springfield. PNW will take on host McKendree tomorrow afternoon to close out the Midwest Region Crossover.
STAT LEADERS
How it happened: PNW (0-1) scored more than half of its points in the fourth quarter while shooting 62% in the final frame, but it wasn't enough for the Pride in a contest that never saw a double-digit lead.
UIS grabbed its largest lead of the night near the start of the fourth with a 43-35 advantage. But, a 3-pointer by Roepke and a Brockington jumper made it a one-point game with 7:41 remaining. Galbraith tied the game at 45-45 on a huge 3-pointer near the six-minute mark, but PNW couldn't capture the momentum.
The two teams would exchange buckets the rest of the way in a single-possession game. PNW cut the deficit to one point again, as the Prairie Stars were clinging to a 53-52 lead near the two-minute mark, but that was as close as the Pride could get.
PNW shot 35.7% overall from the field and made 16 of 29 (55.2%) from the charity stripe, while UIS recorded an overall team shooting mark of 37.7%. The Stars posted a 44-32 edge on the glass and a 10-1 margin on second-chance points.
Lauren Ladowski led the opposition with a game-high 21 points and Jalyn Harris logged a double-double performance with 12 points and 10 boards.
