WINONA, Minn. – The Purdue University Northwest women's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 win over Winona State on Sunday to sweep both weekend matches at the Winona Tennis Center. PNW entered Sunday's match after defeating Upper Iowa 7-0 yesterday and closes the fall portion of its schedule with a 3-1 record.
After surrendering the Doubles point, PNW responded to claim four wins in Singles play in the No. 1, 3, 4 & 6 flights.
Sophomore
Sienna Lopez and freshman
Oona Kintscher got things rolling at No. 1 Doubles with a 6-1 victory, but the Warriors claimed No. 2 Doubles and edged out the No. 3 Doubles match with a 7-4 tiebreak.
Lopez defeated Winona State's Beth Munmann in the top Singles flight, 6-2, 6-2, while Kintscher moved past Rina Niehoff in No. 3 Singles, 6-2, 6-3.
The Pride kept it going as senior
Nicole Uzcategui claimed a victory at No. 4 Singles, 6-3, 6-1, over Brooklyn Jorgensen. Freshman
Hayley Tsuen earned the win at No. 6 Singles with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 margin.
Patricia Dizon and
Salma Raslan each competed in close matches at the No. 2 and No. 5 Singles flights, respectively, but each would end up falling in a third-set tiebreak.
UP NEXT
PNW will open the spring schedule when it travels to Hillsdale on Sunday, Feb. 6.
