HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue Northwest women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) to Northern Michigan in Friday night's GLIAC matchup inside the Fitness & Recreation Center.
After a slow start, PNW bounced back to lead the Wildcats early in a back-and-forth second set.
The Pride led 6-4 before the visitors moved out to a six-point lead, and NMU had the momentum, but PNW battled back to get within a point at 22-21. Kills from
Riley Kraiza (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and
Olivia Brooke (Logansport, Ind.) sparked a 4-0 run to get back in it. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were able to secure the final three points.
The final set also proved to be a tight battle. NMU led 15-12 but PNW responded to claim an 18-16 advantage. The Pride went on a 6-1 run to grab the lead with a pair of kills from
Bryanna Moonen (Franklin, Wis.). However, the Wildcats would make a final surge and registered nine of the final 10 points in the match.
Moonen led the Pride with eight kills while swinging at a .300 clip.
Summer Clark (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a team-high 12 digs with four kills. Brooke handed out 23 assists with seven digs and pair of kills. Libero
Alexis Wade (Union Mills, Ind.) notched 11 digs.
PNW (2-18, 0-9 GLIAC) hit .194 in the second set and logged an overall .120 team hitting percentage. NMU (8-12, 3-6 GLIAC) recorded a team hitting percentage of .221.
