GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Purdue University Northwest women's volleyball team fell 3-0 at Davenport University in Saturday's GLIAC match. The host Panthers won with set scores of 25-20, 25-14 & 25-19.
Freshman
Riley Kraiza led the Pride with seven kills as senior
Bryanna Moonen and sophomore
Erica Brohm each posted six kills. Sophomores
Summer Clark and
Lauren Sanders also chipped in with five kills and four kills, respectively. Clark also produced eight digs and an ace.
Freshman setter
Olivia Brooke dished out 26 assists and recorded eight digs, while freshman libero
Sammie Abruzzo registered a team-high 15 digs.
PNW (1-11, 0-4 GLIAC) recorded an overall team hitting percentage of .122 with 18 errors on 98 total attacks. Davenport (8-6, 3-3 GLIAC) swung at a .287 clip overall in the match.
The Pride grabbed the early lead in the match with a 5-2 advantage in the opening set, following a Sanders kill and pair of DU errors. However, the Panthers rallied on a 12-2 run and closed out the first set with a final score of 25-20.
In the second set, the two teams traded points early on as the Pride gained early 5-3 and 10-8 leads. The score would end up tied at 14-14 as a Brohm kill gave the Pride momentum. But, Davenport finished the frame on a furious 11-0 run to claim a 2-0 lead in the match.
A kill from Clark late in the third set brought the Pride to within one with DU leading 19-18, but again, the hosts closed with momentum with six of the final seven points.
