MIDLAND, Mich. – Purdue Northwest dropped the second game of back-to-back contests against Northwood by a final score of 76-57 Saturday afternoon inside Riepma Arena.
PNW (2-7, 2-7 GLIAC) outscored NU by 10 points combined over the final two quarters, a positive sign after another slow start, but a 29-point halftime deficit was insurmountable as Northwood (6-3, 6-3 GLIAC) swept the weekend series between the two teams.
Dash Shaw led all scorers with 22 points as the PNW freshman finished 7 of 11 from the floor and 7 for 7 at the line. She also recorded five rebounds and five steals with an assist.
Molly DeValkenaere and
Brittany Barnard each chipped in with seven points, while
Mercedes Simmons grabbed a team-high nine rebounds with six points.
Savaya Brockington led the team with four assists to go with six points and five boards.
Brockington's layup at the 3:49 mark in the opening quarter cut NU's lead to five, but the Pride's first-half woes from Friday spilled over into Saturday's contest as PNW ended up trailing 17-6 after one period. Northwood kept its foot on the gas and used a 17-0 run in the second quarter to coast to a 46-17 lead at the halftime break.
NU's Alli Keyser led the hosts with 18 points while Makenzie Todd (11) and Maizie Taylor (10) also reached double figures in the scoring column. Jayla Strickland nearly had a double-double with 11 boards and nine points.
The Timberwolves made half of their shots from three-point range, posting a higher shooting percentage from beyond the arc (39.3) than their overall shooting clip (37.3).
PNW won the battle on the boards 40-39 and went 13 for 13 at the free-throw line, with all 13 attempts coming in the second half. The Pride shot 34 percent overall and 19 percent from three-point range.
