SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Anjel Galbraith scored 18 points and
Danielle Nennig recorded a double-double to lead Purdue Northwest women's basketball to its first win of the season Sunday at Lake Superior State, 61-52.
PNW improved to 1-3 following the win and snapped a 10-game losing streak in league play, dating back to last season. Lake Superior State also moved to 1-3 overall.

STAT LEADERS
Galbraith recorded her season-high 18 points, including 12 in the second half, with a pair of three's and going 6 for 8 at the free-throw line. The sophomore also had a team-high three assists, three steals and two rebounds. It was her 13th career outing with double-digit points.
Nennig produced the first double-double of her career with 15 points and career-high 13 rebounds. She scored 10 points in the second half, including a pair of treys, while finishing the game 4 for 4 at the charity stripe. The senior has scored double figures in three straight games.
Freshman
Mercedes Simmons broke out with a career-high 13 points in 15 minutes off the bench. She went 6 of 9 (67%) to lead PNW in made field goals while grabbing four rebounds.
LSSU's Margot Woughter led all scorers with 22 points and doing most her damage from beyond the arc with four 3-pointers. She had six rebounds and six turnovers.
SUMMARY
PNW had to grind out its first win in a low-scoring game that featured just 37 combined points in the first half.
The Pride overcame nine turnovers in the first quarter to lead 11-5, and then rode out a lengthy scoreless stretch on offense late in the second quarter.
Back-to-back three's from Galbraith and Simmons gave PNW its largest lead of the first half, 19-11, with 4:06 until the break, but the Pride didn't score again until the third quarter.
It didn't matter though.
After LSSU closed the gap to make it one-point game at halftime, the veteran Nennig opened the third quarter with a three and sparked an 8-0 run for the Pride.
Then, freshman
Ce'Niyah Hampton drained her first collegiate 3-pointer with four minutes left in the third, increasing the PNW lead to 10 as the Pride moved ahead, 32-22. The Pride outscored the Lakers 15-9 in the third and carried a 34-27 advantage into the final quarter.
The scoring picked up on both ends in the fourth as PNW outscored LSSU 27-25 over the final 10 minutes of action. The Pride led by double digits the majority of the final stanza, extending its lead to as much as 16 when a layup by Simmons put PNW ahead, 46-30.
Sophomore
Savaya Brockington scored all eight of her points in the fourth, while Galbraith also turned in eight points. Both combined to go 10 of 13 (77%) at the free-throw line to seal the victory.
KEY TEAM STATS
- Season-high eight 3-pointers (8-22/37%).
- Season-high 15 made free throws (15-19) and a season-high free-throw percentage (79%).
- The Pride won the rebounding battle for the third straight game by holding a 34-25 advantage.
