GAME ONE: PURDUE NORTHWEST 8, TREVECCA NAZARENE 4,
After getting shutout on Friday, the Purdue Northwest Pride Baseball team looked to redeem themselves against the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon. Having doomed the Black and Gold on Friday, offense was plentiful in game 1, as the Pride scored a half dozen late in the game, pushing past Trevecca 8-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Michael Woods hit a deep fly to left center-field in the top of the second inning that tipped off the glove of the outfielder, scoring runners from first and second with two outs. The Trojans answered back with a run in the fourth and the fifth innings, tying the game at two apiece. In the bottom of the sixth, the Trojans attempted to steal home and was originally called out, but after a replay review, the umpires called the runner safe, giving the home team a one-run lead.
Â
Determined to answer back, the Pride loaded the bases in the next half.
Anthony Agne hit a bases-clearing triple over the centerfielder. This opened up an onslaught of runs in the inning, including an RBI double from
Brett Veltema and a two-RBI knock from
Nick Albanese. With an 8-3 lead, the Trojans were only able to get one run back before the Black and Gold captured the first game of the doubleheader.

Hunter Thorn followed, both reaching on a catcher's interference and walk respectively. In his first at bat of the series, designated-hitter
Danny Schneberger ripped a shot up the middle, scoring Veltema and Thorn and giving the Pride a quick 2-0 lead.
Â
The Trojans came back with a run of their own, making the score 2-1 at the end of the first. The Pride answered back, however, and
Ray Hilbrich scored
Alex Batistatos from second base in the following half inning after Batistatos smoked a double down the left-field line. In the third inning,
Brett Veltema led off with a missle to the right-field corner for a three-bagger, scoring on another base knock from Schneberger.
Â
After giving up two runs in the fifth, Haczynski settled in and finished the game on the bump for the Pride. Striking out three, Haczynski kept Trevecca on their heels from the sixth inning on. PNW scored two more runs during the game on a double from
Hunter Thorn and a third single from Schneberger, besting the Trojans 6-3.
