Pride Softball Falls on the Road Against Winona State and Illinois-Springfield

PNW Softball hit the road for a weekend of competition, falling to Winona State 5-1 and Illinois-Springfield 5-4

PEORIA, IL -- The Purdue Northwest Softball team hit the road for the weekend, kicking a Friday of competition off by taking on Winona State and Illinois-Springfield. By the end of the day, the Pride went 0-2 as Winona claimed the victory 5-1 and UIS won 5-4.

Courtney Blackwell took the mound for most of the first game against Winona --  allowing six hits and three earned runs --  before being relieved by Abbie May in the top of the sixth inning. May gave up four hits and two earned runs, before Blackwell returned to the mound to finish the game. 

Madison Schultz hit a home run in the in the bottom of the seventh for the Pride's only run.

The Pride followed their matchup against Winona with a close contest against the University of Illinois-Springfield PrairieStars that ended with the PrairieStars taking the 5-4 win. Emma Hill, Ashley Bravo and Blackwell made appearances on the mound in this game. 

PNW gave up two home runs in the first two innings, and by the end of the third, UIS had a 4-0 lead. Amanda Noblett and Ashley Bravo each got on base with singles before a home run hit by Remi Ferguson cut the deficit to 4-3. The Pride scored again in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to take the lead.

The Purdue Northwest Softball team will next be in action on March 13 when they travel to Florida for the PFX Spring Games. Their first opponent once again is Winona State and the first pitch is set for 9 a.m. (CST).
