WESTVILLE, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest Pride hosted the visiting Northwood University Timberwolves on Saturday (Jan. 4). Following the women's team's victory over Northwood, the men sealed the Saturday sweep with a 76-63 win over the Timberwolves. The afternoon would be the Pride's first double header sweep since entering the GLIAC conference.
"We had a lot of guys play well in their roles, and that led to a great team win today," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts. "Northwood is well coached, really big and physical, and they're hard to match up against. Anthony Barnard was fantastic, and Jyrus Freels, Durante Lee, and Gabe Toombs competed like dudes in the paint. Jordan Doss' focus on both ends was evident as he had another good performance, and Xavier Allison made a lot of winning plays."
PNW would put up 38 points in the paint and 15 second-chance points. The Pride were led by Barnard, who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Doss and Timothy Gilmore scored 15 and 10 points, respectively.
"We were able to use our quickness defensively to get the Timberwolves out of their rhythm, and those stops led to transition opportunities," continued Roberts. "We have got to watch the game film better, because this is the type of performance we need to build upon."
The Pride shot 46% from the field and 8-18 (45%) from behind the arc, compared to Northwood's 29% and 5-16. They forced 17 fast break points, 16 bench points, and capitalized on Northwood's 21 turnovers.
Purdue Northwest will be back in action on Thursday, January 9 to take on the Northern Michigan University Wildcats at the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Center on the Westville campus. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (CT).
