PARK FOREST, Ill. -- Senior Moritz Gisy (Duesseldorf, Germany) won at No. 1 singles but it was not enough as the Purdue Northwest men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Missouri-St. Louis Saturday.
Gisy picked up the victory at No. 1 singles against UMSL's Ben-Hur Kasprzak in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
The Tritons started the match winning all three doubles matches to take the early lead. The No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots were close matches.
Gisy and freshman Gregory Kvint (Philadephia, Penn./Lower Moreland) lost at No. 1 doubles to UMSL's Adrian Lessing and Karl Heinrichs, 7-6. Junior Jonluke Passett (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandberg) almost pulled it off at No. 2 doubles but Kasprzak and Vitor Monteiro won the match 7-5.
Sophomore Leon Kah (Munich, Germany) fought hard, forcing a third-set but ultimately falling to Monteiro at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-7, 11-9. Kvint could not hang on after winning the first set at No. 3 singles 6-3 as Lessing won the next two, 6-2, 10-7.
Senior Mauricio Villacres (Guayaquil, Ecuador) won a game in each of his sets at No. 4 singles but Milan Kovacs picked up the victoryin the match 6-1, 6-1. Passett picked up two games in the opening set but Rob White took both sets, 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Dru Kennedy (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) responded from a slow start and won two games at No. 6 singles, however, Heinrichs won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
