Box Score HAMMOND, Ind.-- In their GLIAC season finale, the Purdue University Northwest Men's Soccer team pushed past the Upper Iowa Peacocks with a final score of 2-0. Pride Head Coach
Ryan Hayes was pleased with today's outcome after a difficult season for his team.
Â
"We played really well today," said Hayes. "We attacked well, had a ton of shots, and possessed the ball on the opposition's half for quite a bit today. I just want to thank the seniors for the years that they put into this program. All of them left it in a better place than they found it, and that is the main thing we ask of these guys on and off the field."
Â
Senior
Grant Ugarte (Oak Lawn, Ill./ Oak Lawn), who scored a goal in his last game with the Pride, was happy with the way his team performed following Thursday's win.
Â
"After the season we've had, we could have rolled over and quit today, but we didn't," siad Ugarte. "We are here, and we finally got a W."
Â
In a scoreless first half in which the Pride shot eight times, Ugarte knocked a shot into the back of the net, giving the Pride an early second half advantage. The Pride continued their offensive dominance, outshooting the Peacocks 11-2 in the second half and 19-3 throughout the entirety of the game. In the 88th minute of the match, junior
Matt Bahena (Alsip, Ill./Eisenhower) buried a penalty shot, giving the Pride a late 2-0 lead. The goal by Bahena was his eighth for the season, where he now ranks second in the GLIAC. Ugarte and Bahena combined for ten of PNW's nineteen shots, while senior
Jaime Garcia (Elkhart, Ind./ Elkhart Memorial) had four of his own.

This concludes play for the Purdue Northwest Men's Soccer team in 2019. PNW would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support of Purdue Northwest Athletics. Go Pride!
