Pierce’s Second-Half Goal Sparks the Pride to a Win Over Wisconsin-Parkside

Pride defeats the Rangers 1-0!

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue Northwest Women's Soccer team hosted the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers for an afternoon matchup on Sunday, October 27. The Pride's offensive attack erupted in this game at Dowling Park, recording a season-high 19 shots with seven on goal. Midfielder Shonali Pierce (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) scored what would become the game-winning goal in the 54th minute as the Pride defeated the Rangers 1-0. Forward Avery Fitzgerald (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) got the assist on Pierce's first goal of the season.

"Happy to see a great performance today," said Head Coach Jake Truty. "It's a great feeling. Attacking was something we needed to do. We took care of business and got a result out of that today. A lot of great individual efforts and a lot of great team effort today as well."

Midfielder Kiana Chandler (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) took five shots on the game, the most by a Pride player in a game this season. Four other Pride players recorded multiple shots throughout the competition.

Pride Goalkeeper Leonie Heck (Rösrath, Germany/Albertus Magnus) started the game before being relieved by Bridget Grady (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) at the beginning of the second half. Grady would go on to make four saves.

PNW Women's Soccer will continue their stretch of home games on Friday, November 1 as they will take on Northern Michigan. Kickoff at Dowling Park is set for 2:30 p.m. (CT).
