Men's Basketball's Darric Obinger Earns NAIA Scholar-Athlete Honors

HAMMOND, Ind.— Purdue University Calumet junior Darric Obinger was was named a 2015-16 Daktronics-NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete, as the NAIA announced 163 award recipients on Monday. 

The 6-foot-1 guard is majoring in Accounting and carries a 3.52 GPA. 

Darric Obinger (Munster, Ind./Calumet Christian) averaged 7.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in 29 contests played. He reached double-digit scoring in 10 games this season, including an 18-point performance against nationally ranked St. Francis (Ill.) on Feb. 10.

Obinger started in 10 games during his junior campaign, and finished with a 30.9 percent shooting percentage from beyond the arc. 

The award was Obinger’s first, as it is presented to student-athletes who must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
