Purdue University Northwest

The Purdue Northwest Softball team dropped its final two games of the regular season on the road at Ferris State in GLIAC action on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-6 in Game 1 before a 10-4 loss in Game 2.

Game 1
The Breakdown

• Purdue Northwest jumped out to an early lead but could not hold off a late Ferris State comeback in a 7-6 loss.
• The Pride totaled six runs on 11 hits, while the Bulldogs scored seven runs on eight hits.
• Freshman Charli Westerfield (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) led the offense with three hits and two runs scored, including a triple.
• Junio Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, reaching base four times.
• Freshman Gracie Jensen (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) recorded two hits and drove in three runs, while freshman Jessy Del Toro (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) added a two-RBI double.
• Sophomore Jordyn Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started in the circle, allowing five runs over four innings.

• Purdue Northwest erupted for four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Jensen's two-RBI single and Del Toro's two-run double.
• Ferris State answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 4-3.
• The Pride added two more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Dugan and an RBI single from Jensen to extend the lead to 6-3.
• The Bulldogs responded in the fifth inning with three runs, tying the game at 6-6.
• Ferris State took the lead in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to make it 7-6.
• Purdue Northwest was unable to push across the tying run in the final frame.

• Ferris State used a big first inning and continued offensive pressure to secure a 10-4 win.
• Purdue Northwest recorded four runs on nine hits in the contest.
• Dugan led the offense again, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.
• Del Toro collected two hits and an RBI, while senior Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) added a two-RBI single.
• DeBoer contributed an RBI single in the fourth inning.
• Bond took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) in the first inning.
• Sophomore Kendra Steinberg (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and junior Hannah Rafferty-Flatter (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) combined for five innings in relief.
• Kozlowski led Ferris State once again with two hits and two RBIs.
• Katie Shuboy started in the circle pitching all seven innings allowing four runs off nine hits to record the win.

• Purdue Northwest now heads into the postseason with the GLIAC Softball Tournament starting Thursday, May 7 after missing out on the tournament last year.
