Softball splits high-scoring contests at Parkside

The Purdue Northwest Softball team split a high-scoring GLIAC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Parkside, falling 15-3 in five innings in Game 1 before bouncing back with a 10-8 victory in Game 2.

Game 1

  • Jensen led the way with three hits and five RBIs, including a two-run home run in the third inning.
  • Freshman Sylvia Mudis (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) added two hits, including a two-RBI triple as part of a four-run third inning that gave the Pride the lead.
  • Freshman Jessy Del Toro (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) contributed two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, while senior Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) added two hits and a run driven in.
  • Sophomore Abbey Bond (Saint John, Ind./Andrean) earned the win, allowing eight runs over 4.2 innings.
  • Senior Hailie Charmat (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) secured the save, tossing 2.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts to close the game.
  • The Pride drew eight walks and used a five-run fifth inning to create separation.
  • After trailing 3-0 in the first inning, Purdue Northwest answered with four runs in the third to take the lead.
