Softball takes two in second day of Oasis DII Collegiate Classic

The Purdue Northwest Softball team continued play at the Oasis DII Collegiate Classic on Saturday in Marion, Illinois, rallying for a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Lincoln-Missouri before closing the day with a commanding 10-2 victory against Kentucky Wesleyan.

The Breakdown

  • Purdue Northwest scored four unanswered runs to erase an early deficit and defeat Lincoln (Mo.), 4-3.
  • The Pride collected nine hits, including a solo home run from freshman Sylvia Mudis (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville).
  • Senior Hailie Charmat (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) earned the win in relief, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing just three hits and one unearned run with three strikeouts.
  • Freshman Jessy Del Toro (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) and senior Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) each recorded two hits, with DeBoer driving in a run and stealing two bases.
  • Senior Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) added an RBI, while senior Grace Wilson (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) and freshman Charli Westerfield (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) each doubled in the contest.
  • Lincoln struck first with two runs in the opening inning and added another in the second to take a 3-1 lead.
  • PNW responded in the third inning, as Mudis launched a solo home run and the Pride added another run to even the score at 3-3.
  • The Pride took the lead for good in the fourth inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to move ahead 4-3.
  • Charmat settled in from there, holding Lincoln scoreless over the final three frames to secure the comeback victory.

The Breakdown

  • Purdue Northwest erupted for 10 runs on 15 hits in a dominant 10-2 win over Kentucky Wesleyan.
  • Seven different Pride players recorded at least one hit in the contest.
  • Sophomore Kylie Madura (Munster, Ind./Munster) led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while junior Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) added three hits and swiped three bases.
  • Del Toro scored twice and tripled, and freshman Gracie Jensen (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) tallied two hits, including a double and a triple, with two RBIs.
  • Junior Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) drove in two runs, and Jadyn Ramer (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) recorded two hits and scored twice.
  • Junior Hannah Rafferty-Flatter (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs over 5.0 innings with two strikeouts.
  • The Pride wasted little time, scoring three runs in the first inning to set the tone.
  • After Kentucky Wesleyan cut the deficit to 3-2, PNW answered with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to extend the lead.
  • The Pride broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning.
  • Freshman Chloe Tanner (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) closed out the final inning in relief as Purdue Northwest sealed the run-rule victory.
