Pride Baseball Drops final game of series at Saginaw Valley

On Saturday, the Purdue Northwest baseball team came up short in game four of their weekend series, falling 4-2 to Saginaw Valley State in a GLIAC road contest at the SVSU Baseball Complex in University Center, Michigan. Despite a strong outing from starting pitcher AJ Reid (Highland, Ind./Highland) and a multi-hit performance from Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel), the Pride couldn't hold off a late surge by the Cardinals.

The Basics
  • Records: Purdue Northwest (17-27), Saginaw Valley (29-20)
  • Location: University Center, Michigan
  • GLIAC Conference Game

The Breakdown
  • Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel) led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and scoring both of PNW's runs.
  • Kam Earley (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
  • AJ Reid (Highland, Ind./Highland) took the loss on the mound but delivered six solid innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out eight.
  • Eric Beck (Manteno, Ill/Manteno) threw a clean eighth inning in relief, striking out one.
  • Dan Puplava (Portage, Ind./Portage) and Jayden Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) each added a hit for the Pride.
  • Purdue Northwest took a 2-1 lead in the fifth before Saginaw Valley rallied with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
  • The Pride were limited to just four hits on the day and left seven runners on base.
  • Saginaw Valley's G. Richardson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while L. Mead and A. Cicerone also drove in runs.
  • The Cardinals outhit PNW 10-4 and turned a key double play late in the game to preserve their lead.
  • Saginaw Valley scored first with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, but PNW tied it in the third after Imlach advanced on a wild pitch and scored.
  • The Pride went ahead in the fifth when Imlach scored again on Earley's sac fly. However, the Cardinals responded with two in the sixth and added another in the seventh to secure the win.
  • PNW's bullpen kept the game within reach, but the offense couldn't capitalize late, managing just one base runner over the final three innings.
