Softball slips at home against Grand Valley State

The Purdue Northwest Softball team slipped in both games at home against Grand Valley State in GLIAC action on Tuesday afternoon. The Pride fell in a heartbreaker in Game 1, 7-6, and couldn't bounce back in Game 2, 10-3.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Junior Grace Wilson (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) led the Pride at the plate going 3-of-4 with one double.
  • Sophomore Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) added two hits and two RBIs for Purdue Northwest.
  • Junior Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic), sophomore Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison), and freshman Kylie Madura (Munster, Ind./Munster) each notched two hits.
  • Senior Darcy Barkauskas (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) chipped in one hit and three RBIs.
  • Junior Hailie Charmat (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) gained the start on the mound for the Pride pitching all seven innings allowing seven runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
  • Elizabeth Wesoloski led Grand Valley State going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two homeruns and four RBIs.
  • Neveah Ingram started in the circle for the Lakers pitching all seven innings allowing six runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts to record the win.
  • GVSU took the early lead in the first inning off a two-run shot from Wesoloski to go up 2-0.

  • The Lakers extended their lead to 4-1 after scoring two runs in the third innings.
  • Purdue Northwest then went on to take the lead in the third inning after scoring five runs including a three-run homer from Barkauskas to make the score 6-4.
  • GVSU grabbed a run in the fifth to trim the deficit down to 6-5.
  • Wesoloki went on hit her second homerun of the game in the sixth inning, a three-run shot to help the Lakers retake the lead, 7-6.
  • The Pride couldn't convert in the end, even with runners in scoring position, ultimately falling in a heartbraker, 7-6.

  • Hernandez led the Pride with two hits and one RBI.
  • Dugan and senior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) each added two hits with one stolen base.
  • Wilson and Fair both notched one hit and one RBI during the game.
  • Senior Saylem Smith (Hobart, Ind./Hobart), freshman Kendall Adelmann (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka Community), and junior Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) all chipped in one hit a piece.
  • Freshman Abbey Bond (Saint John, Ind./Andrean) started in the circle for Pride pitching all seven innings allowing 13 hits and ten run with two strikeouts.
  • Liv Regenfuss led Grand Valley State with three hits and two RBIs.
  • Kylie Swierkos started on the mound for the Lakers pitching all seven innings allowing three runs off 11 hits with four strikeouts to garner the win.
