Pride Baseball Battles Hard but Falls Short Against Davenport in GLIAC Doubleheader

On Saturday, March 22, the Purdue Northwest baseball team faced off against Davenport in a GLIAC matchup where the Pride fought hard but ultimately fell short, losing game one 5-3 and game two 9-5

Game 1: L (5-3) – 7 Innings

  • Davenport extended its lead in the sixth after M. Tchavdaro was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in a run to go up 4-2. Purdue Northwest answered with a sacrifice fly by Imlach, scoring AJ Reid (Highland, Ind./Highland) and bringing the score to 4-3.
  • The Panthers secured their win in the seventh when L. Todd singled to left, driving in S. Clay for the final 5-3 score.
The Breakdown
Game 2: L (9-5) – 9 Innings
  • Braylon Holland (Hobart, Ind./Andrean) went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs to get the Pride on the board. AJ Reid (Highland, Ind./Highland) also contributed with a 1-for-4 performance and an RBI.
  • Dan Puplava (Portage, Ind./Portage) went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Joey Guiliano (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and Kam Earley (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) each scored a run, with Earley also stealing a base.
  • Purdue Northwest jumped to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Braylon Holland (Hobart, Ind./Andrean) and an RBI single by AJ Reid (Highland, Ind./Highland). Despite the strong start, the Pride's offense was stifled for the remainder of the game as Davenport mounted a comeback.

  • Purdue Northwest's Mitchell Stanton (South Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) (2-2) took the loss, allowing two runs over six innings with four strikeouts. The bullpen struggled, surrendering seven runs in the final three innings.
  • Davenport tallied 11 hits, while Purdue Northwest managed eight. The Pride also committed two errors, which proved costly in the late innings.
