The Purdue Northwest women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day in their season finale against Northern Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The Pride ultimately fell in the end after a hard-fought battle, 81-66.
Prior to the game, Purdue Northwest Athletics and the Women's Basketball program recognized and honored their six seniors:
Takiya Howard (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle),
Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis),
Akyia Baker (Newark, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas),
Nessa Walsh (Chicago, Ill./St. Joseph),
Kylie Schmidt (Francis Creek, Wis./Mishicot), and
Kaylen Evans (New Lenox, Ill./Nazareth Academy).

Inside The Numbers
- Senior Akyia Baker (Newark, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) led the Pride 18 points and grabbed two rebounds with two assists.
- Junior Alyssa Cole (Nashville, Ill./Nashville Community) contributed 15 points with a team-high eight rebounds coming off the bench.
- Senior Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis)Â chipped in 13Â points for the Pride.
- As a team, Purdue Northwest shot 23-of-62 (37.1%) from the field and 12-of-24 (50.0%) from behind the arc, while tallying 16 assists and five steals.
- Jacy Weisbrod led Northern Michigan with a game-high 23 points and grabbed three boards.
- The Wildcats finished the game shooting 30-of-64 (46.9%) from the floor and 12-of-27 (44.4%) from three-point range, while recording 18 assists and seven steals.
The Breakdown
- The Wildcats came out strong but the Pride did not back down in the first period as they were only down 17-10 heading into the second.
- Purdue Northwest started fast in the second going on an 11-5 run to tie the game up at 21-21 with less then five minutes left in the first half.
- Northern Michigan then went on to regain the lead but the Pride kept the game within single digits at halftime, 31-25.
- The Wildcats started the second half growing momentum and took a double-digit lead, 44-33, in the first few minutes of the second half.
- Purdue Northwest fought back though, cutting their deficit to 48-44 with less then four minutes remaining in the third period.
- Northern Michigan then responded a 16-3 run to close out the third and head into the fourth with a 64-47 advantage.
- The Wildcats continued their momentum for the rest of the game as the Pride couldn't catch up in the end as they would fall in their final game of the season, 81-66.
- Purdue Northwest held a slim margin in bench points, 23-22.
