Cole drops career-high 27 points in loss at Parkside

Junior Alyssa Cole (Nashville, Ill./Nashville Community) scored a career-high 27 points in a great effort as the Purdue Northwest Women's Basketball team fell in a tough battle on the road at Parkside in GLIAC play, 78-68.

  • Cole led the Pride with a game-high 27 points going 11-of-17 from the floor and grabbed four rebounds.
  • Senior Cherelle Newsom contributed 12 points going 4-of-6 from the three-point line.
  • Freshman Ciara Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) also added 12 points giving great minutes off the bench and snatched seven rebounds.
  • Senior Nessa Walsh (Chicago, Ill./St. Joseph) returned to action after missing the last few games chipping four points with a season-high ten boards and three assists from the bench.

The Breakdown
  • The Pride started the game fast taking a 14-7 lead before Parkside called a timeout with six minutes left in the first.
  • Parkside answered and battled back with a high-scoring first period for both teams and Purdue Northwest holding a slim lead after the first quarter, 19-18.
  • Both teams battled back-and-forth in the second period and saw Parkside head into halftime with small lead, 40-38, as the Pride didn't back down in the first half.
  • The Rangers came out in the second half fast with a 13-5 run to go up 53-45 halfway through the third quarter.
  • Purdue Northwest ended finishing the third period strong cutting their deficit to 61-57 as the tight game headed into the all important fourth quarter.
  • Parkside started the fourth with an 11-5 run to take their largest lead of the game so far, 72-62, with six minutes left in the game.
  • The Pride couldn't get shots to fall in the final few minutes as their efforts in the game weren't enough in the end, 78-68.
  • Purdue Northwest outscored the Rangers bench, 20-13.
  • Parkside held a slim advantage in rebounds, 35-32.
