Softball slips in final day of Lewis Dome Invite

The Purdue Northwest softball team slipped in the final day of the Lewis Dome Invite falling in both games on on Sunday afternoon. The Pride dropped Game 1 against Winona State, 12-3, and then fell in a tough battle against William Jewell, 3-2.

Game 1 – vs. Winona State
The Breakdown
  • Junior Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) led the Pride with a homerun and three RBIs.
  • Sophomore Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) added a hit and a stolen base.
  • Senior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville), sophomore Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), junior Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian), and freshman Jadyn Ramer (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) each chipped in one hit during the game.
  • Sophomore Hannah Rafferty-Flatter (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) earned the start on the mound for the Pride and pitched the first 2.1 innings allowing six runs.
  • Freshman Abbey Bond (Saint John, Ind./Andrean) came in relief pitching the final 1.2 innings allowing six runs and striking out two batters.
  • Ashlee Chantos led Winona State with three hits and two RBIs.
  • Izzy Howe started in the circle for the Warriors pitching all five innings earning the win with three strikeouts while allowing three runs.
  • Truman State got the scoring started with one run in the first inning to grab a 1-0 lead.
  • The Warriors came out the third inning and tallied eight runs to grow their lead to 9-0.
  • Purdue Northwest got some of the offense going scoring three runs off a Hernandez three-run homer in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 9-3.
  • Winona State notched three more runs in the fifth to make the score 12-3 and the Pride couldn't score more runs to extend the game, falling in the end to the 12-3 scoreline.
Game 2 – vs. William Jewell
The Breakdown
  • Dugan led the Pride with two two hits while also recorded two stolen bases.
  • Senior Saylem Smith (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) added two hits.
  • Fair and DeBoer each notched one hit and one RBI.
  • Stuckey and freshman Madison Ecker (Shiloh, Ill./O'Fallon Township) both chipped in one hit Purdue Northwest.
  • Junior Hailie Charmat (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) started in the circle for Pride and pitching the first five innings allowing three runs with two strikeouts.
  • Freshman Rylan Gick (West Lafayette, Ind./William Henry Harrison) came in relief pitching the final two innings only allowing one with no runs scored and tallying three strikeouts.
  • Emma Jane Ogle led William Jewell with two hits and three RBIs including a homerun.
  • Avery Reynolds started on the mound for the Cardinals and pitched the first three innings allowing seven hits and two runs.
  • Sydney Parra came on in relief for William Jewell and pitched the final three innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.
  • The Cardinals scored the first run of the game in the third inning to go up 1-0, but Purdue Northwest tied it up in the third to make it 1-1.
  • The Pride grabbed the lead in the fourth off an RBI hit from DeBoer to make the score 2-1.
  • William Jewell responded in the fifth inning and retook the lead after a two-run homerun from Ogle to give them a 3-2 advantage.
  • Purdue Northwest couldn't tie or take the lead in the final innings and ultimately fell after a hard-fought game, 3-2.
