Softball opens 2025 season with split in Day 1 of Lewis Dome Invite

The Purdue Northwest softball team splits Opening Day of the 2025 season in Day 1 of the Lewis Dome Invite. The Pride fell in Game 1 against Minnesota State-Moorhead, 3-0, and then bounced back in Game 2 against Bemidji State for the win, 7-0.

Game 1 – vs. Minnesota State-Moorhead
The Breakdown
  • Sophomore Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) led the Pride with two hits and notched a stolen base.
  • Senior Saylem Smith (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) and freshman Madison Ecker (Shiloh, Ill./O'Fallon Township) each added a hit.
  • Junior Hailie Charmat (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) earned the Opening Day start on the mound for the Pride and pitched all seven innings only allowing four hits and tallied four strikeouts in her debut.
  • Avery Steffen led Minnesota State-Moorhead with two hits and one RBI including one triple.
  • Teagan Clemmons started in the circle for the Dragons and pitched all seven innings for the complete game win allowing four hits with six strikeouts.
  • Both teams battled back-and-forth defensively, holding each other scoreless for the first two innings.
  • The Dragons got the scoring started notching two runs in the third inning to go up 3-0.
  • MSMU added another run in the fifth to extend their lead to 3-0.
  • The Pride couldn't get any hits down the stretch and fell in the first game of the 2025 season, 3-0.
Game 2 – vs. Bemidji State
The Breakdown
  • Freshman Jadyn Ramer (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) led the Pride with two hits and scored one run.
  • Junior Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) added one hit with two RBIs.
  • Dugan, junior Grace Wilson (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), Smith each notched one hit and one RBI.
  • Five other Pride players chipped in one hit during the game.
  • Freshman Abbey Bond (Saint John, Ind./Andrean) made her collegiate debut in the circle for Pride and pitched all seven innings for the complete game shutout win allowing only six hits and struckout six batters. She also got a chance at the plate earned her first-career hit.
  • Mariah Stevenson and Alexa Christenson led Bemidji State with two hits each.
  • Payton Prissel started on the mound for the Beavers and pitched the first 1.2 innings allowing five hits and four runs with the loss.
  • The Pride got the scoring started in the second inning with four runs to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Purdue Northwest added two more in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-0..
  • The Pride tallied their final run in the sixth inning to make the final score of 7-0 and the win for Purdue Northwest.
  • Purdue Northwest ended the game with 11 total hits.
