Men's Basketball wins overtime battle against Roosevelt

The Purdue Northwest Men's Basketball team battled at home to win an overtime thriller over Roosevelt in GLIAC action on Monday night, 94-87.

The Basics

Laborers' Local 41 Player of the Game: Freshman Will Ashford (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) - led the Pride with 20 points going 8-of-11 from the field and grabbed six rebounds with two assists.

Inside The Numbers
  • Senior Dalton Gayman (Nevada, Mo./Nevada) scored 19 points while grabbing six rebounds.
  • Sophomore Jackson Ware (Lismore, Australia/Trinity Catholic) tallied 14 points off the bench and snatched three boards.
  • Junior Collin Albert (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran Highschool East) chipped in 11 points with three assists.
  • As a team, the Pride ended the game shooting 30-of-61 (49.2%) from the floor and went 10-of-21 (47.6%) from deep. The team also recorded 16 assists with six steals and eight blocks on the defensive side.
  • Forte Prater led Roosevelt with a game-high 25 points going 10-of-17 with seven rebounds.

The Breakdown
  • The Pride had a good start to the game grabbing a 17-12 lead in the first eight minutes.
  • Roosevelt then answered with a 9-3 run to grab a 21-20 advantage with nine minutes to go in the first half.
  • Purdue Northwest then regained the lead right after and held onto that for five minutes until the game was tied up 30-30.
  • The Pride went on to outscored the Lakers 12-9 in final four and half minutes of the first half to take a 42-39 lead at halftime.
  • Purdue Northwest got off to a fast start in the second half with a 13-4 run to take their largest lead of the game, 55-46.
  • The Lakers responded with a big 18-9 run to tie things up, 64-64, with less then 11 minutes remaining in the game.
  • The final ten minutes of the second half would be a back-and-forth battle with several lead changes during that stretch.
  • Purdue Northwest clinged onto a 79-75 lead with over a minute remaining, but the Lakers scored four straight points to tie things up, 79-79, with over three seconds remaining.
  • The Pride tried to get one final last shot off but could not convert and game went into overtime tied up at 79-79.
  • The overtime period was all Purdue Northwest as the Pride were able to get clutch shots to fall from Ashford and Albert going to the free throw line to help pull the game away and give Purdue Northwest the hard-fought victory in the end 94-87.
  • Purdue Northwest outscored Roosevelt in second chance points, 14-5.
  • The Pride bench dominated the Lakers, outscoring them during the game, 30-12.
  • Purdue Northwest outrebounded Roosevelt, 40-34.
