Pride Fall to #20 Saginaw Valley in Road GLIAC Matchup

The Purdue Northwest Men's Soccer team traveled to University Center, Michigan this Friday for a GLIAC conference matchup with the #20 Saginaw Valley State Cardinals, where the Pride would fall 3-1.

  • Maqiis Haywood (Deerfield, Ill./Round Lake Beach) dished out an assist on the lone goal.

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Mateus Baptista de Souza went the distance between the posts, logging 90 minutes and making three saves.

The Breakdown
  • SVSU picked up multiple yellow cards early (three in the first 20 minutes), but still pressed with several shots. Adrian Mahoney scored just before halftime to put SVSU ahead 1–0.
  • SVSU's Eoin Farrell converted a penalty in the 47th minute, doubling the lead to 2–0.
  • Both teams made frequent lineup changes throughout, with SVSU drawing several more yellow cards (including their keeper). PNW also had a caution.
  • Matty Telfer added SVSU's third in the 82nd minute, but PNW's Rami Hassan Zantout (Folson, Calif./Folsom) pulled one back in the 85th (assist by Maqiis Haywood (Deerfield, Ill./Round Lake Beach)) for a 3–1 final.
  • PNW's Mateus Baptista de Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Montverde Academy) made multiple saves to keep Pride in the game, while SVSU's Nick Kay stopped late chances to secure the win.
