Women's Basketball holds off Davenport for GLIAC road win

The Purdue Northwest Women's Basketball team held off Davenport for a road GLIAC win on Thursday evening by the score of 69-66.

Inside The Numbers 
  • Alyssa Cole (Nashville, Ill./Nashville Community) led the Pride with 18 points while grabbing six rebounds with three assists. Cole also went a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
  • Nessa Walsh (Chicago, Ill./St. Joseph) added 13 points, four boards, and four assists.
  • Thaya Luse (Elburn, Ill./Example Academy) had a near double-double with ten points and eight rebounds.
  • Sophia Remmel (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) provided great energy off the bench with a season-high ten points and snatched four steals.
  • As a team, Purdue Northwest finished the contest shooting 26-of-67 (38.8%) from the floor and 5-of-17 (29.4%) from the three-point line. They also tallied nine steals and 16 assists in the game.
  • Ellie Toney led Davenport with a game-high 27 points going 11-of-17 from the field with five rebounds.
  • As a team, the Panthers ended the game going 25-of-56 (44.6%) from the floor and 8-of-20 (40.0%) from deep. They notched 12 assists and five steals.
 
The Breakdown
  • The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle that saw Davenport hold a solid lead heading into the second, 18-13.
  • With the Pride down 22-18 with seven minutes left in the first half, Purdue Northwest went on a 9-1 run to take a 27-23 advantage.
  • Davenport then responded to tie the game up at 27-27 with a little over two and a half minutes left until halftime
  • Purdue Northwest finished the first half strong taking a 36-32 lead with key plays from Cole and Luse
  • The third quarter was a good quarter for Davenport, outscoring the Pride 21-12 and taking a 53-48 advantage into the fourth
  • Purdue Northwest started the fourth period strong with a 9-2 run to regain the lead, 57-55, with less then seven minutes left in the game.
  • It was a back-and-forth game for the rest of the fourth quarter with both teams trading baskets and leads heading into the final minute.
  • With the Pride holding a slim 67-66 lead and Davenport with the possession, Remmel drew an offensive foul with four seconds remaining and give Purdue Northwest the ball back.
  • Cole drilled two free-throws to give the Pride a 69-66 lead and Remmel once again provided defensive pressure to earn the game-sealing steal to give Purdue Northwest the road win.
  • The Pride dominated in points of turnovers, 18-5.
  • The Purdue Northwest bench outscored the Panthers during the game, 15-5.
  • The Pride held a slim lead in points in the paint, 36-32.
