Men's Basketball's strong effort falls short against #4 Ferris State

The Purdue Northwest Men's Basketball team gave a strong effort against #4 Ferris State in a GLIAC battle at home on a Saturday afternoon, 93-83.

The Basics

Inside The Numbers
  • Junior Collin Albert (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran Highschool East) led the Pride with a game-high 21 points with two rebounds and two assists.
  • Senior Jailen Nelson (San Diego, Calif./Carlsbad) added 18 points and three assists with three steals on the defensive end.
  • Senior Detalian Brown (Chicago, Ill./Combine Academy) notched 13 points during the game.
  • Sophomore Jackson Ware (Lismore, Australia/Trinity Catholic) chipped in nine points off the bench.
  • As a team, the Pride ended the game shooting 29-of-61 (47.5%) from the floor and went 13-of-24 (54.2%) from the three-point line. The team also notched 13 assists with six steals and two blocks on the defensive side.
  • Nathana Claerbaut and Reece Hazelton each led Ferris State with 19 points. Claerbaut grabbed nine rebounds.
  • Three other Ferris State players scored in double figures.
  • As a team, the Bulldogs finished the contest going 31-of-63 (49.2%) from the field and shot 7-of-21 (33.3%) from behind the arc. They recorded 13 assists and eight steals with one block.
The Breakdown
  • The Pride started strong and tough during the game and led for most of the first half including a 32-28 lead with eight minutes left until halftime.
  • Ferris State gained some momentum with a 9-2 run to take a 39-34 advantage with less then five minutes remaining in the first.
  • The Bulldogs held on to their lead for the remainder of the first but the Pride were within striking distance heading into halftime only down 45-39.
  • Purdue Northwest started the second half battling back to tie the game up at 53-53 in less then five minutes.
  • Ferris State then responded with a 7-2 run to take a 60-55 lead with 14 minutes left.
  • The Pride didn't back down and went on a 11-5 run to take the lead, 66-65, with less then nine minutes remaining in the game.
  • The Bulldogs though regained momentum with a 16-8 response to take a nice lead, 82-73, with only four minutes left in the contest.
  • Purdue Northwest continued to battle for the rest of the game but Ferris State held off the Pride until the very end and taking the game, 93-83.
  • The Pride ended the game going 12-of-15 from the free throw line.
Post-Game Quote from Head Coach Boomer Roberts:
"We were really good on the offensive end tonight. But there were to many possessions where forced a miss and couldn't corral the board. The league is brutal, and we've been on the wrong end of it early. But we're close, and our guys will stay together."
