Men's Basketball comeback falls short at Wayne State

The Purdue Northwest Men's Basketball team's comeback fell short on the road at Wayne State on Saturday afternoon, 70-67.

  • Senior Jailen Nelson (San Diego, Calif./Carlsbad) led the Pride with 15 points and dished out four assists.
  • Senior Detalian Brown (Chicago, Ill./Combine Academy)  added 13 points.
  • Junior Collin Albert (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran Highschool East) chipped in 11 points with four assists and four rebounds.
  • As a team, the Pride ended the game shooting 28-of-59 (47.5%) from the floor and went 5-of-19 (26.3%) from the behind the arc. The team also notched 12 assists with four steals.
  • Rob Lee Jr. led Wayne State with 15 points and grabbed eight boards.

The Breakdown
  • Wayne State started the first half strong taking a 19-9 lead with twelve minutes left in the first half.
  • The Pride battled back to cut the deficit to 19-18 in the next few minutes.
  • Both teams went back-and-forth in the final minutes of the first half and saw Wayne State hold a slim 30-28 at halftime.
  • The teams started the second half trading leads in the first minutes after halftime with Purdue Northwest holding a 37-36 advantage.
  • The Warriors responded with a 20-7 run to take a 57-43 lead, their largest of the game, with ten minutes remaining.
  • In the final ten minutes of the contest, Purdue Northwest fought their way back to cut it to 66-63 game with two minutes left in the game.
  • With Wayne State knocking down free throw the Pride cut it a one-point game, 67-66, with 55 seconds left.
  • The Warriors continued to hit a few free throws as the Pride could not convert on theirs down stretch.
  • Wayne State though gave Purdue Northwest small opening to tie the game with a last second half-court but the Pride could not get it to falling in the end after another battle, 70-67.
