The Purdue Northwest softball team opened their 2024 season going 3-1 at the Railsplitter Invitational over the weekend.
The Basics

Game 1 - vs. Ohio Dominican - W, 3-0
The Breakdown
- Sophomore Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) led the Pride with two hits and one RBI
- Junior Jessica DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) added two hits.
- Graduate Student Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) contributed one hit and one RBI.
- Senior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started on the mound for the Pride and pitching a complete game only allowing two hits and no runs. She also struckout six batters.
- Maysonet and Walker led Ohio Dominican with one hit each.
- Smodilla started in the circle for the Panthers and pitched the first 4.1 innings with three strikeouts allowing three earned runs.
- The Pride score the first two runs of the game in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.
- Purdue Northwest added their third run in the fifth inning to make it 3-0 and the final score in the end.
Game 2 - vs. Lincoln Memorial - W, 7-4
The Breakdown
- Sophomore Grace Wilson (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) led the Pride at the plate with two hits and two RBIs.
- A.DeBoer contributed two hits and one RBI.
- Senior's Michko and Kirsta Wright (Casa Grande, Ariz./Casa Grande Union (Central Arizona CC)) added two hits each.
- Senior' Aubrey Shroyer (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) and Jessica DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) each chipped in one hit and one RBI.
- Freshman Hannah Rafferty-Flatter (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) earned her first collegiate start in the circle for the Pride and pitched the first four innings.
- Senior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) came in the game and pitched the last three innings to notch the win with three strikeouts.
- Four Lincoln Memorial players led the team with two hits each.
- Eijl started on the mound for the Railsplitters and pitched 6.1 innings with six strikeouts during the game.
- Lincoln Memorial started the contest strong scoring three runs in the first inning taking an early 3-0 lead.
- The Railsplitters added another run in the third to increase their lead to 4-0.
- The Pride answered back in the fifth inning scoring three runs to cut their deficit to 4-3.
- Purdue Northwest tied it up 4-4 in the sixth inning.
- The Pride then scored three runs in the top of the seventh to make the score 7-4 and hold off Lincoln Memorial in the end for the win.
Game 3 - vs. Findlay - W, 6-2
The Breakdown
- Senior Allison Arnold (Tucson, Ariz./Naperville North) led the Pride with two hits and two RBIs.
- Freshman Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) added two hits and one RBI.
- Freshman Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) contributed two hits and two stolen bases.
- Senior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started on the mound for the Pride and pitched another complete game win. She only gave up two runs and struckout eight batters.
- Bredel led Findlay with two hits.
- Purdue Northwest started the scoring early in the first inning taking a 2-0 lead.
- Findlay grabbed a run in the first to make it a 2-1 game.
- The Pride scored four runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 6-1.
- The Oilers earned one run in the fourth to make it 6-2 but wasn't enough in the end as the Pride sealed it in the end.
Game 4 - vs. Ohio Dominican - L, 5-4
The Breakdown
- Sophomore Olivia Hernadez led the Pride at the plate with one hits and four RBIs.
- Shroyer contributed two hits.
- Senior's Michko and Kirsta Wright (Casa Grande, Ariz./Casa Grande Union (Central Arizona CC)) added two hits each.
- Michko, Arnold, and freshman Jessica Goldhardt (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) each chipped in one hit.
- Senior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) started on the mound and pitched all six innings with six strikeouts.
- Walker led Ohio Dominican with two hits and three RBIs.
- Jacobs started in the circle for the Panthers and pitched all 6.2 innings to earn the win and grabbed six strikeouts.
- Ohio Dominican scored the first run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
- The Panthers added two runs in the third and fifth inning to take a 5-0 advantage.
- In the sixth inning, Hernandez launched a grand slam for the Pride to cut their deficit to 5-4.
- The Pride couldn't convert in the final inning and fell just short in the end.
