Pride Track & Field Set Four New School Records in Season Opener

The Purdue Northwest Track team opened their 2024 Indoor season last Friday and Saturday as they headed to Allendale, Michigan and Bourbonnais, Illinois to compete in the GVSU and ONU Holiday Open. The Pride would have many great performances as four Pride athletes would set school records. These athletes include Sarah McGraw, Michale Golston, Myles Sisco (Portage, Ind./Portage), and CJ Brooks.

The Basics:
•    The event was held in Allendale, Michigan and Bourbonnais, Illinois
•    GVSU and ONU Holiday Open
•    Pride set four new school records

Notable Results:
Men (GVSU Holiday Open):
  • Men's 60 Meters: DJ Willis (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park - River Forest) finished 46th overall with a time of 7.19 seconds, leading his team in the event.
  • Men's 200 Meters: Myles Sisco (Portage, Ind./Portage) secured 9th place overall with a time of 21.96(New School Record), Tyler Bohnen followed with a strong 39th-place finish in 23.12 seconds.
  • Men's 400 Meters: Michale Golston delivered a strong performance, placing 15th with a time of 49.88 (New School Record). Carson Bell (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) closely followed, finishing 19th in 50.07 seconds.
  • Men's 800 Meters: Hayden Podlin (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS) placed 24th overall with a time of 1:58.63, while Josh Tuck (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) finished 26th in 1:58.82.
  • Men's 5000 Meters: James Snow finished 20th overall in 16:03.99, with Jackson Bakker (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) close behind in 30th, clocking 16:00.02.
  • Men's 4x400 Relay: The team of Carson Bell (Hobart, Ind./Hobart), Michale Golston, Alex Simmons (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook), and Josh Tuck (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) placed 7th overall with a time of 3:22.66.
  • Men's High Jump: Jaydon Tarohocker (Sarasota, Fla.) took 4th place, clearing 1.85m, while Eli Baumann (Allendale, Mich./Allendale) cleared 1.94m to finish 9th in the invite section.
  • Men's Pole Vault: CJ Brooks delivered a standout performance, taking 5th place with a clearance of 4.75m (New School Record). Noah Thames (Brighton, Mich.) finished 13th with a height of 3.85m.
  • Men's Long Jump: Andre Taylor (West Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Lakes) placed 12th with a jump of 6.68m, leading his team in the event.
  • Men's Shot Put: Christopher Poole (/) finished 11th with a throw of 11.77m, the best from his team.
Men (ONU Holiday Open):
  • Men's Pole Vault: Jaydon Tarohocker (Sarasota, Fla.) achieved a 3rd-place finish with a clearance of 3.65m. Byron Chandler (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) placed 8th with a height of 2.00m.
  • Men's Long Jump: Jaydon Tarohocker (Sarasota, Fla.) excelled with a jump of 6.64m to secure 3rd place. Byron Chandler (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) finished 12th with a mark of 5.66m.
  • Men's Triple Jump: Lucas Bass (Maple Park, Ill./Kaneland) claimed 1st place with a best jump of 13.83m. Zack Bosi (Spring Valley, Ill./Hall) took 4th with a leap of 12.77m, while Josh Ortiz placed 6th, recording a jump of 11.56m.
Notable Results:
Women (ONU Holiday Open):
  • Women's 60 Meters: DeAndria Franklin (Hobart, Ind./River Forest) placed 16th with a time of 7.93 seconds.
  • Women's 200 Meters: DeAndria Franklin (Hobart, Ind./River Forest) finished 26th with a time of 26.65 seconds. Chisom Chukwuocha (Indianapolis, Ind.) followed closely in 29th place, clocking 26.72 seconds.
  • Women's 800 Meters: Sara McGraw (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) recorded a strong performance, placing 25th with a time of 2:23.84 (New School Record).
  • Women's 5000 Meters: Myrriam Dhoore (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) achieved a top 10 finish, placing 9th with a time of 18:56.37.
  • Women's 60 Hurdles: Alaina Schultze (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) stood out in 14th place with a time of 9.36 seconds.
  • Women's 4x400 Relay: The team of Cailey Weber (Hobart, Ind./Hobart), Da'Ja Jones (Portage, Ind./Portage), Jerralee Testa (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Asby), and Sara McGraw (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) secured 6th place with a time of 4:02.50.
  • Women's Long Jump: Alaina Schultze (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) achieved 14th place with a jump of 5.08m (16' 8").
  • Women's High Jump: Both Kelli Blissett (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) and Jerralee Testa (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Asby) cleared 1.44m (4' 8.75") to tie for 13th place.
Women (ONU Holiday Open):
  • Women's Triple Jump: Kiara Spates (Markham, Ill./Thorton Township) achieved 2nd place with a jump of 11.32m (37' 1.75"), Malia Butler (Dyer, Ind.) secured 5th place with a mark of 10.23m (33' 6.75"), Kelli Blissett (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) placed 7th with a jump of 9.89m (32' 5.5").

The track and field team is set to return to competition on December 13th at the 2024 Blue Demon Holiday Invite in Chicago, Illinois. Meet time is TBA
