Men's Basketball not able to finish vs. Northern Michigan

The Purdue Northwest Men's Basketball team were not able to finish and fell just short to Northern Michigan in GLIAC play on Thursday night, 82-78.

Inside The Numbers
  • Graduate Student Brendan Temple (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) led the Pride with a 22 points going 11-of-18 from the field.
  • Senior Kalil Whitehead (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) notched 15 points and four rebounds.
  • Senior Anthony Irvnin chipped in 13 points with three boards.
  • As a team, the Pride finished the game shooting 31-of-61 (50.8%) from the floor and went 9-of-20 (45.0%) from behind the arc.
  • Brian Parzych led Northern Michigan scoring a game-best 24 points with four assists.
  • As a team, the Wildcats ended the contest going 30-of-60 (50.0%) from the field and shot 8-of-22 (36.4%) from the three-point line.
The Breakdown
  • Both teams battled back-and-forth for the entire first-half.
  • The traded leads and baskets during entire 20 minutes, but Northern Michigan went to halftime with a slim 37-34 lead after three free-throws were made by Max Weisbrod.
  • The Pride started strong in the second half going on a 6-2 quick run to take a 40-39 lead.
  • The Wildcats quickly regained the lead and went on a 7-2 run to take a 46-42 advantage with less then 16 minutes remaining.
  • With the score tied 46-46, Northern Michigan took control and went on a 24-12 run to take 70-58 lead with five minutes remaining in the game.
  • Purdue Northwest fought back and cut there deficit to 77-73 with a minute left.
  • The Wildcats although ended the game making free throw and big shots down the stretch as the Pride fell just short, 82-78.
  • Both teams benches scored 12 points each.
  • The Pride held a slim edge in points in the paint, 42-40.
Game Quote from Head Coach Boomer Roberts:
"We had a rough two minute spurt in the second half after we took the lead that really hurt us. Got away from what was working, and they got to the rim easy. These games come down one or two possessions, and unfortunately they made a couple more plays than us."
