Women's Basketball slips in highly contested home battle against Parkside

The Purdue Northwest women's basketball team slipped in a highly contested battle at home against GLIAC foe Parkside on Sunday afternoon, 85-74.

Inside The Numbers
  • Senior Dash Shaw (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) led the Pride with 20 points going 5-of-9 from the floor and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
  • Senior Mercedes Simmons (Crystal Falls, Mich./Forest Park) added 19 points and seven boards.
  • Sophomore Lauren Hawthorne (Hebron, Ky./Conner) notched in 18 points going 6-of-11 from the three-point line while grabbing seven rebounds during the contest.
  • As a team, the Pride ended the game shooting 26-of-50 (50.0%) from the field and went 10-of-23 (43.5%) from deep.
  • Cassidy Arni led Parkside scoring a game-best 22 points off the bench with four rebounds.
  • As a team, the Rangers finished the contest going 31-of-60 (51.7%) from the floor and shot 7-of-23 (30.4%) from behind the arc.
The Breakdown
  • Both teams shot the ball well on the first period with Parkside taking a 26-20 advantage into the second.
  • The Pride battled back in the second period outscoring the Rangers 21-19 but Parkside still held the lead going into halftime, 45-41.
  • Purdue Northwest started the third period strong going on a 11-3 run to the lead, 52-48, with seven minutes remaining until the fourth.
  • The Rangers answered though and regained the lead, 62-59, after both teams battled for the remainder of the third heading into the fourth period.
  • Parkside ended the game outshooting the Pride in the fourth, 22-16, making key free throws and shots down the stretch to seal the win, 85-74.
