Salma Raslan takes first place in singles at 2023 ITA Division II Women’s Midwest Regional Championships

The Purdue Northwest women's tennis team packed the buses and headed to Indianapolis, Indiana This weekend to compete in the 2023 ITA Division II Women's Midwest Regional Championships. This tournament consisted of 65+ players competing in singles and doubles matches in tournament style play. The Pride had a good showing at the tournament, but the standout of the tournament was Sophomore Salam Raslan who took first place in the singles tournament C Division and became PNW's first ever ITA singles winner in program history!
The Basics
  • The 2023 ITA Division II Women's Midwest Regional Championships
  • The Pride competed in both singles and doubles play.
  • Salam Raslan took first place in the singles tournament C Division.
  • Sienna Lopez (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West) went 4-1 after being knocked out first round by a semifinalist from UINDY and went 2-1 in doubles with Regina Vazquez.
  • Regina also went 2-1 on both sides. She played in the A doubles and B singles.
  • Daniela Rubio (Lima, Peru/International Virtual Learning Academy) went 2-1 on the weekend in singles B divisions and 1-2 in the doubles A bracket.
  • Hayley Tsuen (Johannesburg, South Africa/) went 2-1 in both singles and doubles for the weekend in the B singles and B doubles division.
  • Oona Kintscher (Berlin, Germany/) took two games to three sets against two top rated opponents
  • The overall record for the weekend was 20-10 for wins and losses.
