Hugo Lorenzo (Madrid, Spain/Guzman el Bueno (William Penn)) has received Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Midwest Player of the Year honors after his outstanding 2023 season. He also garners First Team honors along with senior goalkeeper
Eligh Williams (Gympie, Queensland, Australia/The Southport School), senior forward
Jacob Battista (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Dt Kevin's College (Viterbo University)), and senior defender
Flavio Nardecchia (Viterbo, Italy/Liceo Linguistico Mariano Buratti (St. Andrews)) earning Second Team All-Region accolades.
Lorenzo continues his postseason honors after being rewarded as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year along with First Team accolades and the first-ever PNW men's soccer player to receive this award as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year. Lorenzo was dynamic on the offensive end this season for the Pride after transferring in from William Penn. The senior led the conference in goals (13), points (33), and game-winning goals (4), while also adding seven assists for Purdue Northwest. He led the region in goals, points and game-winning goals while nationally he ranked tied-seventh in total goals scored this season and tied-11
th in total points. Lorenzo dominated the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week Awards this season, winning four times, including two in-a-row in October. Lorenzo is the first PNW student-athlete to recieve a Midwest Player of the Year award since the school became an NCAA Division II institution.Â
Williams earns another postseason honor after earning GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team honors for the 2023 season. Williams was the first-ever PNW men's soccer goalkeeper to earn this outstanding recognition. Williams was a menace defensively all season long for the Pride. In his 18 starts, Williams led the GLIAC in goals against average (0.75), save percentage (0.836), and shutouts (9) which were all career-highs. He also ended the season with a career-best 61 saves. His goals against average put him Top-20 in the NCAA and save percentage notched at 11th in the country. Williams helped lead the Pride to an 10-4-4 overall record and was GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Battista earned Second Team honors while starting all 18 games for Purdue Northwest this season. He was second on the team in goals (8) and points (23) while also tied for first in assists with seven. Battista was second in the conference in total points and tied-second in the GLIAC with goals. He also finished with three game-winning goals. Battista came up big in the GLIAC Tournament with a goal in each game including the game-winning goal in the GLIAC Tournament Championship game.
Nardecchia also claims another postseason honor after earning Second Team honors for the Pride this 2023 campaign while starting 18 games and notching one assist to help strengthen the backline of the defense.
These players helped guide the Pride to their first-ever GLIAC Tournament Championship and first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
Sports Information Directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences within the Midwest Region selected the all-region teams. A total of 26 student-athletes representing 34 different institutions filled out the two teams. Those selected to the first team will now move onto consideration for the All-American voting.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
