Men's Soccer wins GLIAC Tournament Championship for first-time in program history; clinch automatic bid in NCAA playoffs

The Purdue Northwest Men's Soccer team take down Saginaw Valley State to win their first-ever GLIAC Tournament Championship in program history in a 1-0 game. The win marks the first time a Purdue Northwest team has a team championship as NCAA DII institution and grants them an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

  • Records: 2-seeded PNW (10-2-4, 5-3-2), 5-seeded Saginaw Valley State (4-9-6, 2-6-3)

Inside The Numbers 

  • Senior Jacob Battista (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Dt Kevin's College (Viterbo University)) led the Pride with one goal.
  • Graduate student Adam Morris (London, England/Jcoss (Louisiana State-Shreveport)) notched the assist during the game.
  • Graduate student Eligh Williams (Gympie, Queensland, Australia/The Southport School) played all 90 minutes in frame for the Pride recording four saves and his ninth shutout of the season.
  • Jonathan Monney led Saginaw Valley State three total shots.
  • Jack Simms played all 90 minutes in goal for the Cardinals and tallied three saves.

The Breakdown 

  • The Pride scored the lone goal of the game after Battista converted on a great cross from Morris to take 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • Purdue Northwest held on for the shutout after great saves from Williams and an amazing defensive performance to hold on for the championship.
