HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest women's soccer team announced its 2022 schedule which features eight home matches this fall. The Pride are entering their sixth year as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II.
Under the direction of first-year head coach
Mary Whisler, PNW will open the season with a pair of non-conference road contests. The Pride will visit Lake Erie (OH) on Aug. 27 — the Pride defeated the Storm 1-0 at home last season — and then PNW makes the short trip over to Lewis four days later on the 31st.
"I am excited for this new chapter of PNW women's soccer!" Whisler said. "The support from the PNW community and the athletic department has been exceptional. The team's energy is fantastic and I look forward to going to battle day-in-and-day-out with this group."
The home debut for Coach Whisler is set for Sept. 2 against Drury which marks the only non-conference matchup at Dowling Park. The Pride will travel to Illinois-Springfield on Sept. 6 to round out non-conference play.
PNW will open league play on its home field when Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan come to town on Sept. 9 and Sept. 11, respectively.
Then, the Pride will face a stretch of tough competition with back-to-back travel weekends featuring road matchups at Davenport (Sept. 16), Grand Valley State (Sept. 18), Ferris State (Sept. 23) and Saginaw Valley State (Sept. 25).
PNW returns to Dowling Park for a matchup against Parkside during Fall Festival on Oct. 1. The homestand resumes the following weekend against Ferris State (Oct. 7) and Saginaw Valley State (Oct. 9)
A trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to take on Northern Michigan (Oct. 14) and Michigan Tech (Oct. 16) is on the docket before the final home matches of the regular season a week later against Davenport (Oct. 21) and Grand Valley State (Oct. 23).
The regular-season finale is slated for Friday, Oct. 28 at Parkside.
The GLIAC tournament is scheduled to begin on Oct. 30 with higher seeded teams hosting quarterfinal matchups and the highest seed remaining then hosting both the semifinals and finals the first weekend of November.
