Huston shoots team-record 74 to lead PNW on historic day

AUGUSTA, Mich. — Libby Huston (Yale, Mich./Yale) shot a school-record 74 and Purdue Northwest produced a team-record 320 in the second round of the 2022 GLIAC Women's Golf Championship at Stonehedge North.
 
PNW finished the tournament with an overall team score of 671 — good for the second-lowest 36-hole total in school history. The Pride shaved off 31 strokes from yesterday's opening round.
 
Huston also registered the second-lowest 36-hole individual total at 159. She shot even on the front nine and carded two birdies on the day.
 
New career-lows were also posted by Taylor Martin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger HS) and Catherine Brzycki (Griffith, Ind.) on Saturday.
 
Brzycki shot an 80 while Martin carded an 82. Both ended up tied for 39th on the leaderboard with teammate Kaitlyn Valiska (New Lenox, Ill.) as all three recorded a two-round total of 171. Valiska shot an 84 and recorded a birdie on Hole 1.
 
Miriah Gabel (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington High School Central) also carded an 84 and sunk a birdie on Hole 4. She finished with an overall tournament total of 174.
 
Grand Valley State and Northwood are set for medal match play on Sunday to determine the GLIAC team champion. GVSU's Julia Sanchez claimed individual medalist honors after shooting 1-over par 145.
