Softball takes first game in Wednesday's split at Lewis

Pride finish extended road trip with 6-6 record, Return home this weekend

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Purdue Northwest softball team wrapped up a 12-game road trip by splitting Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader at Lewis. PNW (21-11) won the first game 7-2 and Lewis (21-21) took the nightcap by a final score of 7-1.

GAME 1: PURDUE NORTHWEST 7, LEWIS 2
PNW scored three in the third, highlighted by Jocey Gault's (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) RBI double for an early 3-0 lead, and never looked back.

Aubrey Shroyer (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) went 3 for 4 with three RBIs on a pair of run-producing doubles in back-to-back at-bats late in the game. Her two-bagger in the sixth came with the bases loaded and put the Pride ahead 7-1.

Ashley Bravo (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) (1 for 4) added an RBI groundout, while Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) (2 for 4) and Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) (2 for 2) each had multi-hit efforts.

Emma Hill (Holmes Beach, Fla./Cary-Grove (IL)) picked up her second win in the circle by allowing a pair of runs on eight hits, five walks and a strikeout. It was her third complete-game outing of the season. The right-hander delivered in a few high-leverage moments, including working her way out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth.

The Flyers never led but were able to plate one run across in the third and sixth innings.

Lewis starter Delaney Garden (9-9) took the loss in the circle.

GAME 2: LEWIS 7, PURDUE NORTHWEST 1
Gault led off the fifth inning with a home run in the second game, but that was all the offense the Pride could muster against Lewis' Payton Wuske (1 ER, 4 K, 2 BB). For Gault, it was her fifth home run and team-leading 34th RBI of the season.

The Pride managed just five hits and left six runners aboard. Bravo, Kiara Negron (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), Allison Arnold (Tucson, Ariz./Naperville North) and Kara Aloisio (North Aurora, Ill./Yorkville) each recorded a base knock.

Aloisio notched PNW's first hit of the game in the third inning, taking an 0-1 pitch to right field for her first double of the season.

Michko was charged with the loss in the circle after the Flyers scored three in the first inning and four more in the fourth. She was an out away from escaping the early threat, but back-to-back doubles allowed the three runs to score. The right-hander went three-and-two-thirds and surrendered seven hits with one walk and one strikeout. Reliever Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) allowed just one hit over the final two-plus innings.

UP NEXT
PNW returns to RUSH Physical Therapy Field this weekend for a pair of GLIAC doubleheaders against Ferris State (Sat.) and Northwood (Sun.). The Pride will host 10 of the final 12 games of the regular season.
