PNW Men's Tennis Cruises Past Michigan Tech 6-1

Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Purdue Northwest men's tennis team completed their trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula with a 6-1 victory over Michigan Tech at the Gates Tennis Center in Houghton.
 
The win extended PNW's win streak against Michigan Tech to four as the Pride have never fallen to the Huskies in the short rivalry.
 
PNW (3-12, 1-5 GLIAC) got out to an early start by taking the doubles point thanks to a pair of wins from the top two doubles matches.

Miguel Agustin Flores Cepeda (Monterrey, Mexico) and Levent Evyapan (Istanbul, Turkey) bested Adam Fenjiro and Vitor Jordao 6-1 while Luca Kirchhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) and Bjorgvin Juliusson (Reykjavik, Iceland) won 7-6 (7-3) over Siddhesh Mahadeshwar and Eli Pinnoo.
 
Flores and Kirchhoff played brilliantly in their respective singles flights as Flores took down Fenjiro 6-4, 6-0 while Kirchhoff defeated Jordao 6-3, 6-0.
 
Evyapan was pushed to a tiebreaker at 7-6 (7-3) in the first set of his No. 3 singles match against Nikolai Prosjanykyov before settling in for a second-set victory of 6-1.
 
Juliusson was tested by Pinnoo but outdueled his competitor to the tune of 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) for the victory. Luis Alvear (Manacor, Balearic Islands, Spain) took down Andrew Freel in another tightly-contestest match, winning 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 for the sixth and final point for PNW.

UP NEXT
The Pride have one more match prior to the start of the postseason as they travel to Caledonia, Michigan on Saturday, April 23 to complete GLIAC play against Davenport University. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. CDT from the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
