Box Score 2 PARK FOREST, Ill. – The Purdue Northwest men's tennis team (2-3) defeated Olivet Nazarene (1-5) 4-3 on Saturday to finish the weekend with a 1-1 ledger at Park Forest Tennis Club. The win came after the Pride fell to Illinois-Springfield on Friday by a 6-1 margin.
PNW claimed the doubles point over ONU with a 6-4 win at No. 2 Doubles by
Luca Kirchhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) and
Bjorgvin Juliusson (Reykjavik, Iceland), and a 7-5 win at No. 3 Doubles by
Marcos Jose Diaz Gutierrez (Guadalajara, Spain) and
Jonas Franssen (Deuss, Germany).
The two teams split the singles flights with three wins apiece. Kirchhoff won at No. 2 Singles, 6-2 & 7-6, while
Luis Alvear (Manacor, Balearic Islands, Spain) picked up the win at No. 4 Singles, 7-5 & 7-5.
Jonas Franssen (Deuss, Germany) earned a win at No. 5 Singles, 6-3 & 7-5.
Freshman
Aidan Beilke (Cedar Lake, Ind.) made his first collegiate start with a strong performance at No. 6 Singles.
Miguel Agustin Flores Cepeda (Monterrey, Mexico) and Juliusson rounded out the lineup at No. 1 and No. 3 Singles.
UP NEXT
PNW travels to Ohio next week for a pair of regional matches against Tiffin (Friday) and Walsh (Saturday).
