Women's Basketball starts new season with win against Illinois-Springfield

Pride competed in Day 1 of the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover

The Purdue Northwest women's basketball team started the season on the winning front after defeating Illinois-Springfield in Day 1 on the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover on Friday afternoon, 79-71.

Inside The Numbers
  • Junior Dash Shaw (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) led Purdue Northwest with a game-high 27 points going 9-of-13 from the field and went a perfect 9-of-9 at the free-throw line. She also grabbed nine rebounds.
  • Junior Tadriana Heard added 19 points for the Pride, she went 7-of-13 from the floor and 2-of-3 from deep. She also snatched eight rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists.
  • Senior Kennedy Jackson (Carson, Calif./Redondo Union) ten points during the game.
  • Sophomore Kylie Schmidt (Francis Creek, Wis./Mishicot) chipped in eight points and grabbed a team-best ten rebounds.
  • The Pride finished the game going 27-of-53 (50.9%) from the field and shot 2-of-5 (40%) from the three-point line.
  • Ariyah Douglas led Illinois-Springfield with 19 points going 7-of-16 from the field.
  • The Prairie Stars ended the contest shooting 25-of-59 (42.4%) from the field and went 10-of-31 (32.3%) from deep.
The Breakdown
  • Both team started the game battling in the first quarter and the Prairie Stars with a 16-15 lead. 
  • Illinois-Springfield used a small run to end the first half with a 33-28 lead.
  • With the score 56-51 to start the 4th quarter in favor of the Prairie Stars, the Pride used a 12-5 run to take the lead with 4:40 remaining to make it 63-61.
  • Purdue Northwest did not relinquish their lead for the rest of the game and ended with a 79-71 victory.
  • The Pride made good use of their second chance points holding a 10-7 advantage.
  • Purdue Northwest dominated the paint with 46 points to Illinois-Springfield 26 points.
  • Both teams scored 15 points off turnovers.
