Box Score 2 BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Purdue Northwest men's and women's tennis teams went up against stiff competition in a pair of 5-0 defeats Sunday at Ferris State University.
Lena Van Bergen and
Sienna Lopez would put the Pride women's squad (5-8, 2-4 GLIAC) in position to steal a point early on with a 6-4 victory in their No. 1-doubles flight, but PNW couldn't close out the Bulldogs.
Lopez continued her strong outing by taking the first set of the top Singles flight 6-2 from Ferris State's Morgan Waller. Waller, unfortunately, bounced back to take Set 2 before ending the competition by taking the deciding set, 10-5, to give 21st-ranked Ferris State (9-1, 4-0 GLIAC) the win.
In the men's competition, the match was tighter than the 5-0 final score would let on.
Leon Kah and
Luca Kirchhoff won their No. 2-doubles flight 7-6, but the Pride (6-5, 3-2 GLIAC) would narrowly miss out on the doubles point with a 6-4 loss at the No. 3-doubles flight by
Jonas Franssen and
Marcos Jose Diaz Gutierrez.
Kirchhoff and
Levent Evyapan each claimed a set victory in their respective singles matches before dropping a pair of three-set thrillers.
Ferris State's men's tennis team remained unbeaten at 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the GLIAC heading into the final week of the regular season.
