EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After dropping a 3-2 decision to Kentucky Wesleyan, the bats came alive in a big way for the Purdue Northwest softball team in a 13-5 victory over Lake Erie College at the Deaconess Sports Park in the Midwest Region Crossover.
In Game 2, PNW (2-2) got on the board early against Lake Erie when
Sydney Siedentopf laced a two-out RBI double to centerfield to score
Taylor Stevens in the top of the first.
The Pride would extend the lead to 3-0 in the top of the second on a pair of solo home runs by
Sabryna Stanley and
Jocelyn Gault. Then, a
Kara Aloisio sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth gave PNW a 3-1 lead.
Both teams notched a pair of runs in the fifth inning before the Pride would put the game out of reach by scoring seven runs over the final two innings.
Amanda Noble,
Aubrey Shroyer and
Montana Martinez each drove in a base runner during a four-run sixth inning. Stevens would drive in another in the top of the seventh and, thanks to a Lake Erie throwing error, Aloisio and Stanley would also score on the play to put PNW up 13-4.
Lake Erie (2-6) would plate one more in the bottom of the seventh for the final 13-5 margin.
Every Pride player was involved in the scoring whether driving in or scoring a run against the Storm.
Stevens went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Siedenstopf, Gault and Stanley also collected two-hit games each.
Abbie May garnered the win in the circle for the Pride giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking three in six innings of work.
In the first game of the day against Kentucky Wesleyan, PNW looked to score early as Stevens doubled and
Briana Poehler singled with two outs, but a strikeout ended the threat.
Down 2-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, Gault was moved over to third on an
Ashley Bravo single and would score on the throw attempting to get Bravo out at second.
KWC (3-7) extended its lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth before PNW would get the run back in the bottom of the sixth. Shroyer led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run off a 2-2 pitch from KWC's Evyn Hendrickson.
A potential scoring chance went for naught in the bottom of the seventh when a PNW runner was called out for leaving the base early after a flyout to right field.
Poehler and Bravo turned in two-hit performances each against the Panthers.
Emma Hill took the loss in the circle for the Pride.
